Talking Points for your time at the Table of the Lord

Based on what we learned in our study of God’s word, here are some talking points for you to discuss with the Lord during your time with Him this week.  This is just a starting point.  As you review the scriptures and the class, listen to what Holy Spirit is highlighting to you and discuss those things with the Lord.  This is a very simple way to encounter God each day.

Talking point 1:  2 Chronicles 14:2 – 6.  When Asa became king, he removed everything that stood as a idol in the land.  An Idol is that which we place in a position of equality or higher than or in place of God in our lives.   It can be a physical object, an understanding or a person.  But it take the position of God in our hearts and minds.  These bring God’s wrath and unrest in our lives as God fights those things to remove them so He can be first.   Ask the Lord to show you anything you have placed in a position the competes with Him in your life.  Ask Him to show you what must be repented of and removed from your life so you can walk in His rest.

Talking point 2:  2 Chronicles 14:7.  The Lord gave Asa and Judah a time of peace and rest.  Asa acknowledged that it was a time to fortify the land.  Ask the Lord to show you what places in your life need to be strengthened in your time of rest from warfare.  Ask Him to show you how to fortify those areas of your life.   Ask Him to lead you into His prosperity during this time.

Talking point 3:   2 Chronicles 15:2. The prophet Azariah came with a word from the Lord for Asa telling him the when he  and Judah are with the Lord the Lord is with them and will be found by them if they seek Him.  We referenced Jesus’ teaching on the vine (John 15) to illustrate further what Azariah was speaking about.  Ask the Lord where you have not been seeking Him with your whole heart.  Ask Him to show you how to  remain in Him and where you have been doing, understanding or believing things apart from Him.  Ask Him what you need to do to remain in Him.

Talking point 4:  2 Chronicles 16:7 – 9.   As Asa grew older and more accustomed to his reigning in Judah,  he began to rely more on his own skills, understanding and common sense than on the Lord.  This brought disfavor with the Lord and unrest in Judah.  Ask the Lord where you have stepped away from reliance on Him to reliance on yourself, your own skill and understanding and common sense.  Ask the Lord to show you how to return to complete reliance on Him.

Talking point 5:  John 17.   Jesus’ final prayer for His disciples (which included us) was for oneness with Himself and the Father and from that a oneness with each other.  Ask Holy Spirit to lead you into a deeper oneness with Jesus and other believers.  Ask the Lord what you can do to grow int his oneness.
